SUMMARY:Barry Cloyd — "A Brief History of the Blues"
DESCRIPTION:Edu-tainer Barry Cloyd traces the history of the blues\, through story and song\, from Africa to New Orleans\, up the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers to Chicago and the world beyond. \nThe blues was born a long way from the cotton fields\, the sharecropper’s shacks and juke joints of the Mississippi Delta. The blues was born a long way from the legend of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the Devil and the 12 string guitar riffs of Barbecue Bob and Huddie “Ledbelly” Ledbetter. The blues was born in all of humanity a long time ago. The Blues is still some of our most popular and passionate music and loved the world over. Barry has\, in addition\, been privileged to play music with some of Chicago’s Blues icons and has performed at Buddy Guy’s “Legends” club in Chicago.

SUMMARY:May Book Discussion: Lost Apothecary
DESCRIPTION:“Lost Apothecary” by Sarah Penner \nMay 27 @ 5:30pm \nIn eighteenth-century London\, hidden away from the mainstream\, was a secret apothecary shop. Almost like a speakeasy\, this store wasn’t for everyone; in fact\, there was a specific audience searching for these magical elixirs. Women would seek out Nella’s concoctions to use against oppressive men in their lives. However\, things spiral out of control with one mistake\, leaving a tangled mess that will take years to clean up. This story will take you down the rabbit hole of both suspenseful revenge and the solidarity of sisterhood with every page turned. \nPick up your free copy (while supplies last). \nJoin the WCPL Book Discussion group for more updates: facebook.com/groups/wcplbookdiscussion \n\n
