DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Deaf Awareness Month\, Marlee Matlin joins Illinois Libraries Present to share the highs and lows of her Hollywood career and journeys as an activist. The youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar\, Matlin’s acting career recently achieved another milestone as her 2021 film CODA swept every category it was nominated in at the 2022 Academy Awards. The event will be held virtually on Wednesday\, September 14 at 7 p.m. Click the here to register and receive the Zoom link. \nThe youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar for her film debut\, Matlin’s acting career took off. She went on to receive Emmy nominations for her television work including roles on Seinfeld\, The West Wing\, and Law & Order: SVU. Most recently\, her Apple TV+ film CODA swept every category it was nominated in at the 2022 Academy Awards\, including Best Picture. \nIn addition to acting\, Matlin broke barriers when she starred on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. She has written three children’s novels\, a bestselling autobiography\, and released an app to help teach American Sign Language to millions of smart phone users. A longtime advocate for deaf rights\, Matlin continues to break down barriers for herself and others through her acting\, awareness\, and writing. As she has so aptly stated\, “The only thing I can’t do is hear. Offerman and Tweedy will discuss Offerman’s most recent book\, Where the Deer and the Antelope Play: The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside. The event will be held virtually on Wednesday\, April 27\, at 7 p.m. \nOfferman is best known for his breakout role as Ron Swanson in the hit TV series Parks and Recreation. Offerman has established himself as a well-known and witty actor. Outside of acting\, he is also a New York Times bestseller. He has authored three other books including Gumption\, is the co-author of The Greatest Love Story Ever Told\, and publishes the Donkey Thoughts Substack newsletter. Born in Joliet\, Ill.\, and raised in nearby Minooka\, he now lives in L.A. with his wife and fellow actor Megan Mullally. In his spare time\, he can be found at his L.A. woodshop building hand-crafted items from wood. \nJoining him in conversation will be Jeff Tweedy\, who inspired Offerman to use their walks and conversations in nature for Where the Deer and the Antelope Play. Best known as the founding member and leader of the American rock band Wilco\, Tweedy is one of contemporary music’s most accomplished songwriters\, musicians\, and performers. He is also the author of two New York Times bestsellers\, Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) and How to Write One Song. Most recently\, Tweedy writes and publishes music weekly in his Substack newsletter\, Starship Casual.
